The Slaton Independent School District’s Career and Technology students are getting to finish up their courses in a new location.
The Tech Center opened up last Wednesday (Jan. 6), a little more than a year after delays and other factors came into play.
Including a virus.
“Construction of the building was scheduled to be complete by July of 2020. We were right on track until COVID-19 hit and the shipment of construction materials ground to a halt,” said Superintendent Jim Andrus. “Matt Daniels of Hank Daniels Construction did a marvelous job of navigating the ever changing environment to bring all of the various components together for a January 2021 opening.”
Andrus said the center project cost approximately $2.5 million and was funded by a combination of bond proceeds and general fund reserves.
