Kitten places 8th for pig, makes sale at HLSR

Rachyl Kitten, a senior at Slaton High School, placed eighth for her pig at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this week. She also made the sale.

Kitten has been showing pigs for the past 10 years.

This is her first time to place in HLSR.

Kitten said she was excited to show her pig, especially after the cancellation of the show last year due to COVID.

“We were left with many concerns about the future of the stock show industry,” she said about last year. “But thankfully we were able to exhibit all of our animals and for my senior year I even came home with an eighth place ribbon.

“I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the tremendous amount of support and generosity that I received this year. This just goes to show how the agricultural industry will always prevail.”

The show is still ongoing, and some Slaton FFA students will also be showing in Austin later this weekend.

Any further placings from either event will be published in next week’s edition.
