Slaton High School powerlifter Amaya Ramos competed in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s State meet Thursday (March 18) in Corpus Christi.
She finished tied for fifth in her group.
Ramos said she enjoyed her experience, and learned a lot as well. “It was amazing, but it was definitely an eye opener for me. There were so many strong girls there and they made me realize how much harder I needed to work to get to where they are,” she said.
Still, Head Coach Albert Lopez said she still accomplished a lot in the tough competition. “Amaya was ranked tied for 13th place going into the State Powerlifting Meet. She competed well and ended up tied for fifth,” he said. “She gained 35 pounds from her previous totals from Regionals.”
