Senior Chris Rader competed in the State Powerlifting Tournament in Abilene Saturday (March 27).

While he did not medal in his division, he still represented the school with a strong ninth place showing.

Slaton also sent off Rader and honored fellow State qualifier Amaya Ramos with a parade around town Friday afternoon (March 26) that went by Cathelene Thomas Elementary and around the square before sending them off to Abilene.

That said, even though he didn’t earn a medal, Rader said he still had a lot of fun at the State meet, even with the amount of powerlifters there.

“It was a little crowded due to there being almost 500 lifters. I achieved every goal that I had set out to do in terms of powerlifting,” he said.

Coach Albert Lopez was also pleased with how Rader did. “He improved his overall total by 15 pounds for a total of 1,315 pounds,” he said.

Rader had a squat of 505 pounds, a bench of 295 pounds and a deadlift of 515 pounds.
