Early voting set to begin Monday

Early voting will begin Monday (April 19) across the State. People are able to vote anywhere in the State as long as they are eligible to vote.

Last day of early voting will be April 27.

Voting times are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, then 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday (April 20) and then from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 21-26. The last day of Early voting will be from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. April 27.

Early voting location in Slaton is at the Slaton ISD Administration office, 140 E. Panhandle St.

Slaton will have two City Council seats up for election this cycle – Mayor and a special election for Commissioner Ward IV.

John Gatica, Jacob Parker, Jessie Perez and Clif Shaw are running for Mayor.

Frank Cisneros, Valarie Cubit and Brad Gaydos are running to fill the unexpired term of Commissioner Ward IV, vacant after the passing of Dr. Charlie D. Haynes in December.

Commissioner Ward I and III were also up for this election cycle, but have only a single candidate.

Benny Lopez ran unopposed for Commissioner Ward III.

Tony Newton was the lone person to file for the Commissioner Ward I position. This position has been vacant since the death of Weldon “Squeaky” Self.

A candidate forum for all running for office of Mayor and Ward IV Commissioner will be published in next week’s edition.
