The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees had a light board meeting, but also one full of celebrations Thursday evening (April 15) during its regular monthly meeting.

The Board had to report its continuing education hours into the minutes. The Texas Education Agency recently changed how they had to report the verification on hours, to show they’re up to date on certifications.

Board President Carlos Bentancourt read the certifications into the Board, showing all of them had met the requirements for their duties.

The Board also received an update on property the District was looking on purchasing and cleaning up. Superintendent Jim Andrus said there was one person left on the petition to verify so all items were tied up for closing the property.

Progress on the gym floor was also addressed. Andrus said they have worked on the graphics and are doing painting on the area. They plan on having it completed by the end of this week. Also worked on were roof repairs to ensure water doesn’t leak through and hit the floor of the gymnasium.
