Slaton Harvey House marker vandalized
From Staff Reports
The Slaton Harvey House’s Texas Historical Marker was vandalized this past week.
Chief of Police Trevor Barnes said they received a call May 4 at 3:17 p.m. at the building, 400 E. Railroad Ave.
He said they initially believed the marker was hit with a sledgehammer, but then determined it was possibly a birdshot shell.
Both the front and the back were damaged, making some of the text illegible.
They received a second call May 5 at 11:06 a.m. with a report of the sign now receiving graffiti.
The sign, which is presented by the Texas Historical Commission, will take between $1,600 and $2,000 to replace.
The case is under investigation.
