Slaton, schools set graduation ceremonies

From Staff Reports

The moment for seniors is here – or nearly.

The 2021 graduations for Slaton, Roosevelt, Southland and Wilson will be conducted this week and next.

Southland and Wilson will have theirs this week, while Slaton and Roosevelt will have theirs next week.

The 2021 valedictorian for Southland is Joby Fogerson and the salutatorian is Christopher Cardona.

Southland’s graduation will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday (May 21) at Southland ISD Gymnasium.

The 2021 valedictorian for Wilson High School is Guadalupe Ochoa Olvera and the  salutatorian is Oscar Castanon.

Wilson’s graduation will be conducted Saturday (May 22) at 10 a.m. at Wilson ISD Administration.

Slaton and Roosevelt’s top two graduates will be announced in an upcoming edition.

Slaton will have its commencement next Thursday (May 27) at 7 p.m. in the High School Gym. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and Seniors are not limited to the number of guests. Masks are optional.

Roosevelt ISD’s graduation will be conducted the following day (May 28) at 7 p.m. in the Roosevelt Arena.

This week’s edition of The Slatonite includes the annual graduation section.

Due to some schools electing to announce top honors at a later date, the edition will look a little different than previous years.

The valedictorian and salutatorian will still be recognized on the front page of the week’s edition of their commencements along with photos.

This year, the grad section will start off with Slaton graduates on page one, then progress to Roosevelt, Southland and Wilson. Photos of graduates are in black and white.
