The Roosevelt High School Class of 2021 traded their masks, placed on a podium, for diplomas (May 28) as the graduates celebrated commencements.
The event returned to the Arena after COVID last year forced a change to an outdoor venue, 4GOLF in Lubbock.
Valedictorian Kevin Barraza-Gonzales welcomed everyone and thanked the teachers, students and parents. “Without you guys, none of this would be possible,” he said.
“We have been waiting impatiently for this day to arrive,” Barraza-Gonzales added. “We have managed to make it through the year. We are proud to be the class of 2021.”
He thanked his friends for making it a worthwhile journey, even if their schedules were different to begin with due to COVID changes. “Thanks to all my friends that have always made it worthwhile to come to school, even when it was hard to come to school, y’all made it enjoyable and fun.”
