Slaton holds commencement

There was a special feature presentation of the 2021 Slaton High School graduates Thursday evening (May 27).
This year it wasn’t at the Stars and Stripes Drive-In, but instead the graduates of the Class of 2021 celebrated commencements at home in the high school gymnasium.
Valedictorian Rachyl Kitten said she remembered watching her first graduation six years ago at the high school, and remember it “felt like an eternity” sitting in the bleachers. She also remembered the speeches the graduates gave, hoping one day she’d be giving one to her classmates, finding out the week prior she would.
Kitten, who went to St. Joseph’s Academy before joining her classmates in Junior High, said she missed out on many things, such as the talent show. “But nonetheless, these past seven years we have spent together have been so good,” she said. “(I remember) how excited I was to experience the public education system, but really I think I was just excited I wouldn’t have to where a khaki skirt every day.”
