The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees swore in three members and reorganized the Board Tuesday evening (June 8) during its monthly meeting.
Gabriel Johnson, District 1, Jaime Diaz, District 2 and Greg Schilling, District 5 did not draw an opponent, and the Board canceled the election earlier in the year. All three were sworn in by notary public Betty Driver.
The Board then reorganized. Carlos Bentancourt remained President, Kara Newcomb was elected Vice President and Greg Schilling was named Secretary.
The Board honored graduating student Logan Campbell, who was graduating a year early from the school having finished all his requirements. He was presented his diploma by Slaton High School Principal Tiffany Potts and Superintendent Jim Andrus.
The Board heard a legislative update from Art Martin, who reported on issues addressed in the session as well as upcoming ones in a likely special session in the fall.
A motion was approved by the Board to purchase new LED lights for Tiger Stadium. This would be the second stadium to receive new lighting, as the baseball field had theirs installed in 2020.
