All-star teams win District, advance to Sectionals

Little League World Series may have missed the 2020 year due to COVID, but two Slaton teams made an impact, advancing to Sectionals for the first time since at least 2018.

The Boys 50/70 baseball team and the 10 and under girls won the District Allstar Championships.

The 50/70 boys team won the District 38 Allstar Championship Thursday evening (June 17).

The team played Idalou on June 14, winning 14-2, then played New Home on June 17, winning 16-6.

The team now moves on to the Sectional Tournament. They will play in Slaton June 25-28 at the little league fields. Slaton will represent District 38 June 26 at 7 p.m. at Englund Field.

Players are Zac Gaydos, Kenon Diaz, Kirby Jenson, Taji Arce, Daniel Payne, Jacob Lopez, Ryland Kieth, Derek Barrera, Jacob Luna, Aidan Kelly, Ashton Garcia and Grant Schilling.

Coaches are Adrian Perez, Jaime Diaz and Chess Garcia.

The girls team competed over several days, defeating Idalou 28-0 then Petersburg 10-0 and Roosevelt 16-4.

They then had to compete against Petersburg again for the title and won the game 12-5.

Players on the team are Burkelynn Lamberson, Harleigh Baxter, Dru Rangel, Z’naleigh Escobedo, Khloe Macias, Aubriella Guzman, Jessleigh Lamberson, Kinsley Jones, Isabella Guzman, Gabby Soto, Karly Simmons and Hailey Schaefer.

Also members of the team are Coach Jessie Rios, Coach Jessie Soto and Issac Escobedo.

The girls will compete in Sectionals Friday and Saturday (June 25 and 26) in Childress. They will compete against TCY Borger.

Two teams also won Tri-County with their regular season teams as well.
