The Slaton Little League softball 10 and under team is making the most of its playoff run, advancing to the State tournament this past week.
The girls defeated TCY Borger in the 2021 Texas West Section 1 Minor softball tournament, winning 7-5 in game one, 10-5 game two.
It is the first time in 12 years a team from Slaton has made it to the State round.
Coach Jessie Rios was excited for the team’s hard fought wins. “We were losing both games and they never quit,” he said.
“(They) just came back and won both games. They just never gave up. Never gave up and they finished it.”
He also encouraged the team for the upcoming State contest, which will be conducted in Abilene July 9-12.
“I’m enjoying, I’ve told the girls to embrace it and just enjoy it,” Rios said.
The boys 50/70 team also competed in Sectionals this past week at Englund Field in Slaton.
The team dropped game one 5-1 and game 2 14-0, ending their season.
