A metronome loudly clicked in the parking lot at Slaton High School in the early hours of the morning.

Members of the Slaton Mighty Tiger band were using it to work on their steps and lines as part of band camp.

New Band Director Sheldon Enloe said the camp was going “fantastic” since day one. “We have had the biggest turn out compared to past years,” he said, adding the camp is split into marching fundamentals and drill, then learning the music for the show.

“Camp goes from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday three weeks before school start so our students give up a good portion of their summer to prepare for the year.”

Enloe, who is a 2010 graduate of SHS said he was excited to be the head band director. He takes over for Mario Aguirre, who will now be High School principal.

“My one goal (was) to be the band director of Slaton. I am thrilled to have worked with the program over the years and watch it grow and now I am excited to now be leading the program,” he said.
