Our Lady of Guadalupe to host Jamaica Sept. 11
Our Lady of Guadalupe in Slaton will conduct its annual community wide Jamaica Sept. 11 at the church, 705 S, 4th St. from 9 a.m.-midnight.
There will be a two person team cornhole tournament beginning with 9 a.m. registration.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and prizes will be awarded. Entry fee is $40.
At 3 p.m. Master of Ceremonies Carlos Bentancourt will introduce Father Jacob Puthuparambil, who will provide a blessing to guests.
They will also then pay tribute to first responders, public officials, educators and students through a proclamation presented by Slaton Mayor Clif Shaw.
The Slaton Cub Scouts will present colors and the Slaton High School band will present the National Anthem.
The middle and high school cheerleaders and varsity football team will be announced as well as music presented by the Tiger Band.
There will also be several forms of entertainment throughout the event.
Musical entertainment will include The Funatics, Mojave Sol, Los Pibes, Calibre, Conjunto Aviso, and the highlight band Grupo Rival.
Dance Entertainment includes Ballet Folklorico Aztlan of Lubbock.
There will also be a drawing for prizes. Tickets will be sold throughout the evening.
Food vendors will be ready at noon and will continue selling until midnight. Food items include Menudo, Brisket burritos, Lengua burritos, Tripas burritos, Hamburgers, Nachos, Tamale Plates, Carne Guisada plates, Gorditas, Frito Pies, Corn on the Cobb, Funnel Cakes and other fare.
