Slaton FFA member Grant Schilling received top honors at the State Fair of Texas, placing fifth and making the sale this year.

He placed in the heavy weight exotic class, one of 16 in the event.

Top five steers make the sale.

Schiling said he was excited to earn the placing in the competition. “It was such a huge honor to my family and I to have placed fifth because it is such a big stock show with a lot of tough competition and it was a very challenging class to be put in,” he said, adding he was “lucky enough” to be one of the placing exhibitors in his class.

Just getting to show in the State Fair is an honor, he added.

“In order to qualify for the State Fair Livestock show or any livestock show, you have to be a member of FFA or 4H.  I am a member of Slaton FFA,” he said.
