The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees heard an update on the financial expenses the School District spent in the months of August and September Oct. 12 at the Administration Building.

Superintendent Jim Andrus gave the report of financials, which included payments of $14,230 to McNeil’s Sports Turf to patch up and fix the practice field at the high school, $65,000 to band instruments and two separate checks to Bravos Painting.

There was also a guest speaker from South Plains Communication to speak about the radio system already in place at Slaton ISD. He proposed updated radio with digital technology and a private radio channel that only the school would use. To help boost the range of the radios, he proposed to incorporate a repeater that would extend the coverage to an extra 20 to 25 miles. The quote for the updated radios and repeater would be $27,438.80.

The District wanted to highlight of all the things that the high school does so well. Principal Mario Aguirre started his presentation with a simple statement:  “All of our students and faculty love to set Goals.”
