Curtis Pennington fell in love with wild creatures as a little boy. He was particularly intrigued by dinosaurs and looked at many books to learn all that he could about them.
This is what led him to his current dream. He has established a business last July to breed and sell top quality reptiles, Curt’s Creatures, 8312 E FM 3523, Ste. 130.
As a youngster, Pennington spent a lot of time in the woods behind his home in Houston. The pine forest was dense and humid. Muddy creeks wandered through the thickets. Small ponds were scattered here and there. Pennington was fascinated by all the wild creatures that he found. He would come home with frogs, turtles, lizards, snakes and spiders.
The day after graduating from high school, Pennington joined the Marine Corps. He served in Kuwait before the fighting started, so he had time to collect scorpions and big camel spiders. He then served in Iraq and Afghanistan where he saw serious fighting. No time to collect creatures.
Curt’s Creatures is located in the shopping mall at the entrance to Ransom Canyon. It is really worth a visit. The front of the store has the creatures nicely displayed in well kept aquariums. You can see lizards, iguanas, snakes, spiders and more. The back of the store is dedicated to raising the creatures that feed his menagerie. You will find earthworms, meal worms, crickets and rats.
