The Slaton Third and Fourth Grade Tigers Football team won the Super Bowl Championship Sunday afternoon (Nov. 14) in Post.

The team defeated Idalou 12-6 and earned the highest title they could achieve.

Tyler Ham, one of the coaches of the team, said a lot of hard work and team effort contributed to its success.

“(We) practiced Monday Tuesday and Wednesday of every week for 2.5 hours each day and pushed and encouraged each and every player to perform at their very best and work as a team,” he said.

He added they will celebrate their victory today (Thursday) with a pizza party and cupcakes.

“(It’s) just to show how proud we are of each one of those kids,” said Ham.

As far as next year, as some players will be returning to the team?

“Next year our goal is to continue to grow and work hard together as a team.”

The team will now be playing in RedZone at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, home of the Cowboys, Nov. 28.

This event allows teams from all over the State to play together.

They’ll play four different games with four different opponents, tour the stadium and locker rooms.

“(We) are excited to take our team to participate in that this year,” said Ham.
