The Slaton Police Department had a very busy weekend covering accidents, starting Friday evening (Dec. 17).

The series of wrecks SPD covered started Friday at 5:50 p.m. when they were called out on an agency assist in the 1900 block of W. US Hwy.  84.

Chief of Police Trevor Barnes said the Fire Department asked for police control. The highway was closed for three hours.

There were four accidents in total during the incident, including a Lubbock County Deputy’s vehicle being struck near Knight’s Inn.

No fatalities were reported, and the roads were finally clear at 8:37 p.m.

Buffalo, Slaton and Woodrow Fire Departments along with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department, SPD and DPS all assisted.

During that time, two more accidents occurred in town. The first one was a two-vehicle accident in the 1000 block of W. Dickens St. at 7:29 p.m.

The second one was an unrelated single-vehicle rollover in the 700 block of US Hwy. 84 at 9:10 p.m.

No one was injured in either accident.

Police covered another wreck in the 200 block of E. Jean St. Monday morning (Dec. 20) at 7:49 a.m. between a van and car. Two people were later transported to the hospital, and a wrecker was called for the vehicles.

Barnes encourages everyone to exercise caution, including watching their speed and the road, when traveling during the holiday season.
