Alex Trevino, a senior at Roosevelt High School, has had a senior year of dreams so far.

He was part of the first ever State qualifying football team for the Eagles, and now has a bronze medal to show for it. Trevino was also named the Lone Star Varsity Player of the Year.

Now, he’s going to be a West Point Cadet.

Trevino received the word last Thursday afternoon (Jan. 13) during an event at the school.

Congressman Jodey Arrington (R-Lubbock), who also sponsored his nomination,  gave him the announcement.

“I just wanted to let you know that you were accepted to West Point, and there maybe other offers that come but this is a big deal,” said Arrington. “I think this was your top choice and I just wanted to congratulate you and tell you how proud we are of you.

“You’re going to do great things for our country, and you’re going to make West Texas very proud and they got the very best of West Texas when they got you.”

If Arrington was excited, Trevino was more so, especially with all he had to do to even qualify.

“Lately I have been feeling very excited! After all the physical and mental preparation, it was a huge relief to know that I was accepted,” he said.
