The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees were recognized as part of School Board Appreciation Month Thursday evening (Jan. 13) during the Board’s monthly meeting.

Mayor Clif Shaw read a declaration in honor of the month, and Trustees received a book and bookmark from the District as thanks for their service.

The Board also conducted a public hearing for the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, or FIRST, report.

Board President Carlos Bentancourt opened the hearing at 7:31 p.m.

Chief Financial Officer Art Martin said they were required to give two years of the reports to the State and a report card is created by them. The District has a superior rating of 96 points out of 100. When no one commented, Bentancourt closed the hearing at 7:32 p.m.
