Deadline to file for elections Friday

Applications for a place on the Slaton Independent School District Trustee regular election ballot as well as City of Slaton Commissioner Ward II and IV elections are due no later than closing time Friday (Feb. 18).

At-Large Trustees Justin Martin and Kara Newcomb are the current incumbents for both Slaton ISD Trustee positions.

Jim Taliaferro is the incumbent for Ward II while Valarie Cubit-Johnson is the incumbent for Ward IV for the City Commissioner seats.

Those interested in running for a Trustee seat can file an application in person at the Slaton Administration Office, 140 E. Panhandle St., Slaton, TX 79364.

Those who wish to mail applications for a place by ballot would send the applications to the same address.

Applications may also be faxed to 806-828-5506 or e-mailed to Betty Driver at bdriver@slatonisd.net. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Those interested in filing an application for the Commissioner Ward II or IV positions in person can visit City Hall, 130 S. 9th St., Office of the City Secretary, Pam King.

Those who wish to mail applications for a place by ballot would send the applications to the same address.

Applications may also be faxed to 806-828-2000 or emailed to pking@cityofslaton.com.

Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The General Election will be conducted in May.

If no seat is contested, the election may be canceled.

Should there be contested races, The Slatonite will run candidate announcements as received. They can be no more than 300 words and can include a photo.
