The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees honored 14 teachers who earned designations awarded by Texas through a Teacher Incentive Allotment Thursday evening (Feb. 10) during a meeting at the SISD administration building.

The honorees were Recognized – Keith Creager, Lisa Rocha, Brandon Langston, Amy Reese, Kim Holland and Sammy Johnson; Exemplary – Tricia Englund, Mario Aguirre, Sherri Arrington, Trey Gossett, Jessica McBride and Traci Culver and Master teachers – Sheldon Enloe and Lindsey Boggan.

Superintendent Jim Andrus said he’s been working to develop the designation system since 2019, with its first year to capture data last school year (2020-21). This involves a data system using 13 mathematical calculations to create a teacher effectiveness score.

Teachers were informed of the award Wednesday (Feb. 9), including they would be receiving a bonus.

Andrus added while the school could keep up to 10 percent of the money for ancillary expenses, SISD elected to give the full bonus to teachers and cover the expense.

For more information, including other items discussed at the meeting, please read the Thursday edition of The Slatonite.
