The Slaton City Commissioners approved a resolution canceling an election for the Commissioner Ward II and IV positions Monday evening (March 14) during its regular monthly meeting at City Hall.
Mayor Clif Shaw said the resolution means that as Ward II Commissioner Jim Taliaferro and Ward IV Commissioner Valarie Cubit-Johnson were running unopposed in the May election, there was no need to conduct an election.
The Board also approved the first reading of amending the ordinance for substandard buildings and other structures.
Interim City Administrator Mike Lamberson said they are trying to get items in line to handle these structures, as the original ordinance was missing items to prosecute them correctly in court. The amendments would amend penalties and clauses in the ordinance.
