The City of Slaton had a few reasons to celebrate Monday evening (May 9)during its regular monthly meeting.

Commissioners Ward II  Jim Taliaferro and Ward IV Valarie Cubit-Johnson were sworn in for another two year term by City Secretary Pam King. The election was cancelled after both ran unopposed.

Commissioner Ward III Benny Lopez was elected Mayor Pro-Tem by Commissioners.

The City also recognized retiring City Administrator Mike Lamberson and welcomed Wade Willson, who started the first week in May.

Mayor Clif Shaw thanked Lamberson for his service, and presented a card with congratulatory messages from the City and others in the community.

He also thanked Lamberson for helping him through his first few weeks as Mayor. “(He’s) a sounding board and a very good friend. He has really helped a guy that had no idea about City Government whatsoever,” said Shaw. “You’ll never know how much I did appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. It’s been good working with you and I appreciate everything you’ve done.”

Lamberson, who has served 12 years with the City, thanked everyone for the comments. “It’s been a blast, I’m ready to hand the reins over and sit in the audience and be the problem,” he said jokingly. “Wade is going to do us an excellent job. I’m very pleased that they picked Wade and everything else. He’s got a lot of good ideas a lot of stuff to keep moving forwards not backwards.”
