New City Administrator Wade Willson was honored with a meet and greet Monday afternoon (May 9) at City Hall.

It also was a retirement celebration for Mike Lamberson, who served as an interim until Willson was hired.

Willson comes to Slaton from Spearman, where he worked as City Administrator for a little more than two years. “I started in City Management in 2014 as the City Administrator for the City of Silverton where I worked for 5 1/2 years until moving on to the City of Spearman,” he said.

But that is only part of his life and career, which included a stint in the Marine Corps, where he served in Okinawa, Japan, the Middle East and the Pacific. He was also one of the first responders to the Indonesian Tsunami in 2003, and several relief missions.

He earned an Associate of Arts in Science and an AA at Blinn College, a Bachelor and then Masters of Arts in Political Science from Texas State University, then completed the Certified Public Managers course through Texas Tech University in 2016.

He said that he selected Slaton because he “wanted to do something that I felt mattered.”
