Slaton High School students who lost loved ones over the past few years wanted to create a place where anyone could sit and reflect on their loved ones’ lives and memories.
In the process, a memorial tree with rocks, marker and a bench was formed.
The memorial tree and plaque were revealed during a dedication ceremony Wednesday evening (May 11) during a ceremony at Slaton High School.
Louisa Gonzales, who helped students with the project, thanked everyone for attending and then focused on how the project came to be. “This is a project that was planned, thought out and executed by a special group of students here at SHS,” she said. “We’re excited that their vision has come to fruition here at our school. We’re very proud of that group of student leaders,’ she said.
