Slaton Independent School District paraprofessionals, teachers and administrators will see a bigger paycheck as Trustees approved a new compensation schedule May 10 during the Board’s monthly meeting.

Superintendent Jim Andrus said some teachers will see a 14 percent raise while other positions in the District will see a five percent raise.

The amount will be up to $5,700 for some teachers and no teacher will receive less than $2,000.

Paraprofessionals now will earn $13.50 an hour minimum  for full time and administrators will have a five percent increase, which will be capped at $3,635 for the year.

“We’re very excited to bring this opportunity to the Board,” said Andrus. “This will make our salary schedule very, very competitive with the larger Districts in our region, Lubbock and Lubbock Cooper and Friendship.

“We’ll see teachers whose pay will be increasing in different ranges, but this front loads the budget to make them and the salary schedule stable,  make it much more competitive.”
