Slaton, cities to host annual July 4th festivities, activities

The annual Chamber of Commerce July 4th Festival will be conducted Monday, July 4 on the Town Square from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. It will be conducted on the actual holiday, as several questioned if it would be changed due to the day the date falls this year.

The event will feature music from the Texas Cadillac Band, Cathy Jewell, Jerry Brownlow and Danielle Henzler.

There will also be games, food, inflatables and other fun activities.

Sponsors include the City of Slaton, Atmos Energy, Prosperity Bank, United Supermarkets, OD Kenney Auto Parts, South Plains Compost, Caprock Santa Fe Credit Union, South Plains Electric Cooperative, Slaton Primary Medical Clinic, The Texas Air Museum and Englunds Funeral Services.

Wilson will also conduct its annual fireworks show Sunday night (July 3) in the park by the High School. The event will  start about 9:45 p.m., or sunset, and is open to the public.

The events are two of several that will be conducted in Slaton and the surrounding area.

To have a July 4 item listed in next week’s edition of all July 4 events planned, please e-mail General Manager Melissa McCaghren at melissa@slatonitenews.com by 5 p.m. Monday.
