The City of Slaton Commissioners approved several people to boards Monday evening (July 11) during their monthly meeting.

Commissioners approved appointing Doris Jones, Monique Ruiz and Greg Dyess to the Cemetery Board.

Mayor Clif Shaw said the three names were given to him and others on the commission. The Cemetery Board is appointed by the Mayor, who takes recommendations. People can ask to be on the Board but the Mayor has final discretion.

Commissioner Ward II Jim Taliaferro asked if the Board will have regular meetings. Shaw said they will have meetings, which will be posted and anyone who wishes to attend can do so.

The Board also approved Jesse Lopez to the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.

Shaw said Ceclia Bishop, who is the director of the Slaton Housing Authority, recommended Lopez to the Board.

The Board also approved an ordinance for the proposed amendments to the Slaton City Charter for the Special Election Nov. 8. This was the second reading of the 23 proposed amendments, which include items such as terminology changes to updating City Commissioner qualifications.

Shaw said the amendment  proposals are public record and are available to view at City Hall, 130 S. 9th St. during regular hours. Currently the English version is available while the Spanish is being finalized.
