Slaton, South Plains see heavy rain to end August

From Staff Reports

Slaton and the West Texas area received some needed rain over the past week.

Weather reports showed Slaton received 1.9 inches of rain over the past week, based on reports from Texas Tech Mesonet site, located about two miles northeast of the City.

Rain averaged from a hundreth of an inch to 0.80 inches during the week and a storm missed the City completely on Saturday.

The amount lines up with most of the South Plains, which averaged between one to three inches of rain over the past week.

Lubbock saw a record rainfall Wednesday (Aug. 31), receiving 2.22 inches, beating an 80-year record of 1.02 inches set in 1942.

Some areas saw more rain, causing some flash floods across the South Plains.
