The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a contract to Dynamic Builders for batting cages for $212,245 Oct. 11 during its monthly meeting at the SISD boardroom.
Financial adviser Art Martin said they wanted to have a facility for both teams that could allow them to practice in any weather. The girls would have theirs enclosed while the boys would have a new one built that would allow them to also go directly onto the field.
They also approved the purchase of a new baseball field scoreboard to not exceed more than $50,000.
Martin said the board is so old the manufacturer no longer makes the replacement parts.
He added the coaches have solicited donations with a $50,000 target for a sign that would also have WiFi ability to post the scores.
