Slatonites approve 23 amendments on Election Night

From Staff Reports

Slaton residents voted to approve 23 amendments to its City Charter Tuesday evening in unofficial results during Election Night (Nov. 8).

The amendments were part of a move by the City to update the Charter to be in compliance with the State. It had not been updated since the 1960s.

Neither the City nor Slaton ISD had offices up for election.

A total of 81,674 ballots have been cast in the County, with 187,775 registered voters.

It was not the only local election affecting Slaton.

In unofficial results, Jason Corely was elected to another term as County Commissioner, Precinct 2 election, with 15,415 votes for 70.93 percent of the vote to John Gatica’s 6,319 votes for 29.07 percent of the vote.

Statewide elections were still being counted as of press time. A full discussion of the results will be in next week’s edition.
