Ginning season ends for year, out of Top 10

The 2022 cotton ginning and baling season came to an early close this year.

New Home, Texas Star Co-op Gin and Lubbock Cotton Growers finished their bailing last week, completing the ginning season for the area.

The two other gins – WesTex and Idalou, completed their bailing the week of Dec. 10-14.

The harvest finished this season ginning 154,828 bales, 586,728 below last year’s record setting 741,556 bales.

Drought and other conditions contributed to a lower count this year.

This year saw the merging of Acuff-McClung with Texas Star Co-op, who also has a gin in Union.

All gins saw losses over the previous year.
