9 Slaton students advance to State FCCLA

Slaton High School students in the Family Career and Community Leaders of America, or FCCLA, program competed in the Region I convention Feb. 9-11.

Nine students placed and will advance to State competition at the end of March.

Those advancing to State are, Giselle Torres and Hope Rinas in Food Innovations; Jordan Charles in Sports Nutrition; Destiny Mendez in Chapter Service Portfolio; PJ Bernal and Kaden Jeffcoat in Mystery Basket; and Emiley Garcia, Makenna Polozola and Madisun Chavarria in Entrepreneurship.

Also competing were Isaiah Chapa and Matthew Marlar in Culinary Arts; Daxx Calfin in Mystery Basket; Emily Flores in Career Investigation; Jenna Jones in Service Up Success; Desiree Velasquez and Sloane Meier in Cupcake Battle; and Wyatt Ross, Morgan Guzman, Larr-E Curtis Holland, Scarlett Chancy and Alexis Martinez in FACS testing.

Slaton High’s FCCLA advisers are Valarie Castillo and Chef Jessica Kelly, and honorary adviser is McKenzie Rhoades.
