City Council to have election for Ward 1 seat, SISD uncontested

Slaton will have one contested race in the May election for the City, while the Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees will remain the same.
Tony Newton and Mike Delano both filed an application to run for the Commissioner Ward I seat on City Council.
Incumbent Mayor Clif Shaw and Commissioner Ward III Benny Lopez filed for their seats, but did not draw an opponent.
For the SISD board, Carlos Bentancourt filed for the District 4 seat and Irma Jaramillo for District 3, but did not draw an opponent for either seat.
The City’s Ward I election will be May 6 during the State’s uniform election date.
The last day to register to vote is April 6.
The Slatonite will run candidate announcements for those in the Ward I race, and will do a candidate forum closer to the date of the election.
