5 powerlifting girls qualify to State, team 3rd in Regional

The Slaton Tigerette powerlifting team came home with five State qualifiers and hardware for all Thursday (March 2) after the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Regional meet in Shamrock.
The team won a bronze medal overall and five athletes – Paige Rodriquez, Destiny Doss, Karime Portillo, Jaclyn Loera and Sierra Rodriquez, qualified for State.
Individual placements were:
Rodriquez, first place in Weight Class 114 with 755 total pounds.
Doss second place in Weight Class 259 with a total of 925 total pounds.
Portillo, second place in Weight Class 165 with a total of 770 total pounds.
Loera, third place in Weight Class 181 with a total of 870 pounds.
She made the qualifying total to qualify for State automatically.
Sirena Martinez, third place in Weight Class 198 with a total of 800 pounds.
Jordyn Hogan, third place in Weight Class 220 with a total of 745 pounds.
Victoria Mireles, third place in Weight Class 259+ with a total of 650 pounds
Sierra Rodriquez, fourth place in Weight Class 181 with a total of 855 pounds. She made the qualifying total to automatically advance to State.
Makenna Polozola, fifth place in Weight Class 148 with a total of 695 pounds.
Jazlyen Perez-Whaley, fifth place in Weight Class 181 with a total of 750 pounds.
Aubri Salas, fifth place in Weight Class 259 with a total of 645 pounds.
The five State qualifiers will next compete in the State meet March 15-18 in Frisco.
The Tigers are competing Friday and Saturday (March 10-11) in the Regional Powerlifting Meet in Sundown.
Qualifiers have been added since last week’s edition and now as of press time Tuesday (March 7) are Colton Engle, Zamion Davila, Bryson Salazar, Collin Simmons, Ricardo Bazaldua, Mason Martinez, CJ Linarez, Daniel Leyva, Alex Quintero.
Any lifter on the Tigers advancing to State will compete in the State meet March 24-25 in Abilene.
