Conkin busy at work as new AD

Slatonite GM

Clint Conkin was recently named the new Athletic Director at Slaton High School.

The board approved his contract in February during its monthly meeting.

Conkin said he accepted the position because he believed he could improve the SHS athletic program.

“I took the job at Slaton because I think we have some really good athletes here that can turn this program around and start winning a lot of football games as well as all the other sports. Slaton is a great place to live and I was very interested in coming to Slaton to see what we can become as a total athletic program,” he said.

Conkin grew up in Anton and graduated from Texas Tech University.

His coaching career started at Farwell High School, where he was the Junior High football and head boys basketball coach for five years. He then took a coaching position in Littlefield for nine years, against as a football and head basketball coach.

Conkin then took a football and head basketball coach position in Memphis, Texas for a year before accepting the Athletic Director/head football position in Clarendon, where he worked the past six years before coming to Slaton.
