Baseball advances to Area, track to compete at State

The Slaton Tiger baseball and track teams are having a busy May, walking away with some hardware and eyeing more before the 2022-23 school year comes to a close.

So are runners from Southland and Roosevelt, who are competing in State track.

The baseball team won its Bi-District series against River Road with a 10-0 win Friday (May 5) and a 9-5 win Saturday (May 6).

The team next will face the Tornillo Coyotes in a best two-of-three series Friday and Saturday (May 12-13).

Game one will be at 7 p.m. Friday, with game two played Saturday at 1 p.m. Should a game three be needed, it will be played 30 minutes after the last out of game two.

In track, the Slaton Tigers will compete in three events, with Southland in one event and Roosevelt in two.

Those competing in State for the Tigers are

• 200 meter dash – Ethan Anzley; 4×100 meter relay – CJ Anzley, Zamion Davila, Tomas Geronimo, Izack Nichols, and E. Anzley; and

• 4×200 meter relay – the team of CJ Anzley, Z. Davila, Brayden Brown, Isaias Gallegos and E. Anzley.

For the Roosevelt Eagles, qualifying are Hunter Garrison in long jump and Dakota Zuber in pole vault.

The Southland Eagles’ De’Angelo Humphries won the wild card to compete in the 100 meter dash at State after placing third in Regional.

The Track teams will be competing today through Saturday (May 11-13) in Austin.

Results of both the Tigers baseball game and the Track meet will be in next week’s edition.

Games, dates and times are as of press time Tuesday (May 9). Scores of the games and results of the track meet will be reported in next week’s edition.
