Texas Rangers investigating allegations against Slaton police officer

(Update: The Texas Rangers released a press statement Wednesday (June 14) stating they are investigating an allegation of officer oppression).

The Texas Rangers are currently investigating allegations made against an Slaton Police Department officer regarding an alleged incident with a minor.

The allegation was made Sunday (June 11).

The City has put the officer on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation into the matter, which is in accordance with its employee procedures.

The City released a statement Tuesday evening (June 13) regarding the allegation.

“On June 11, 2023, an allegation was made against a City of Slaton police officer regarding an alleged incident with a minor that occurred earlier that day,” said the City in the statement.

“Because this matter involves a City of Slaton police officer, it was quickly referred to the Texas Rangers for investigation.

“The City of Slaton will cooperate with State and local agencies to the fullest extent permitted by law.  The City of Slaton can state, without equivocation, that its residents’ collective and individual wellbeing is a fundamental concern for the City.”

The City added once the investigation was complete, it would take appropriate action in accordance with City policies as well as State and Federal laws.

It added due to the allegations involving a minor and privacy concerns, it was unable to comment further on the matter.

No charges have been filed as of press time Tuesday.
