Slaton, area conducts annual July 4 festivities

Food, fun, fireworks and other activities lit up the area during annual Fourth of July festivities this past week.

Wilson’s firework display was conducted Sunday (July 2) at their park.

The show was run for several minutes, but then cancelled abruptly after heavy winds from a thunderstorm came into town.

St. Paul Lutheran Church of Wilson, the group that hosts the annual show, said they would reschedule the show for later in the summer.

They will give an update when this will occur.

There were also several activities celebrated around the area and in Slaton for the Fourth of July.

The annual 4th on the Square was conducted Tuesday (June 4) from at the City Square.

A variety of food trucks, games, music and activities were provided.

The event was sponsored by the Slaton Chamber of Commerce, Englunds Funeral Service & Chapel, Prosperity Bank, the City of Slaton, UMC Slaton Clinic, South Plains Electric Co-op, OD Kenney’s and United.

There was also a 4th of July Celebration vendor how at the Kessel Building and  Courtyard, 106 Texas Ave.

The Slaton Senior Citizens Center conducted a 4th of July Bingo event at the Center.

Monies raised would benefit Slaton Meals on Wheels.
