Locals beat the heat with dip in the Slaton pool

The summer has seen a lot of hot days and humidity uncommon to West Texas. People are doing what they can to stay cool in the temperatures.

One of these is go swim at the Slaton City Pool.

Pool Director Chris Kennedy has said the pool has been very busy this season. “This year has been  one of our best ever.  Attendance has been outstanding.  We appreciate all of our citizens supporting our City pool,” she said.

But it has not just been for play. In June, a swimming camp was taught by Mary Jo and Grace Parker for children.

The classes taught swimming skills that can help them in case they fell in a pool, or just to have fun.

Kennedy said the response for the camps was impressive. “We wanted to focus in on water safety and offering swimming lessons is a giant step in making that happen,” she said. “Attendance was phenomenal and we could have offered several more sessions.

“We are looking at the best way to handle the massive interest next year.”
