The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the purchase of two new pickup trucks and personnel Tuesday evening (July 18) during its monthly meeting.
Financial director Art Martin said SISD had two very old trucks, both at least 20 years old, that were on their last leg. The two new trucks were estimated to cost $129,000, a little over the $100,000 budget, but would be bought next year at Smith Auto Family.
Martin added the two new trucks would go to the Ag teachers to use to haul trailers and other equipment for the FFA while the ones currently being used by Ag will go to the maintenance department.
The board also approved non-certified personnel contracts for the 2023-25 school year.
Trustees updated policy manuals for the Texas Association of School Board for this year. Superintendent Shelli Crow said these are done every time legislature was in session.
Among the items updated include accounting, student welfare, insurance and other items. These will be updated, deleted or reversed pending on the new rule.
