Bank remembers Boyd for supporting SISD, community

Peoples Bank Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Larry Allen, announced a partnership with Slaton Independent School District. The Slaton Board of Trustees has voted to rename the Slaton High School football stadium the Blake J. Boyd Memorial Stadium.

Boyd, a long-time Slaton resident and community leader, died in April 2023 after fighting a battle against cancer.

He began his banking career in 1980 at Lubbock National Bank, where he served as a part time teller while he was attending college. In 1985, he served as an examiner with the Texas Department of Banking until 1992. Boyd later served as President and CEO of Citizens Bank in Slaton. In 2012, Blake joined the Peoples Bank family as President and also served on the Board of Directors of Peoples Bancorp.

Boyd enjoyed attending local athletic events, stock shows and supporting his community. One could always find Boyd in the stands cheering on the Tigers on Friday nights.

“Blake Boyd, a beacon of strength and generosity,” said Shelli Crow, Slaton ISD Superintendent. “Though cancer took him too soon, his legacy shines through new signage dedicated in his memory by Peoples Bank throughout Slaton ISD. The new signage will not only promote pride in our schools, but also honor a brave soul who faced a difficult battle with grace. In each display, his name is etched with love – a reminder that even in loss, giving and hope can transform lives.”

The Slaton Tigers will officially open the regular 2023 football season at the Blake J. Boyd Memorial Stadium on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.
