SISD conducts public meetings on tax rate, budget

The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees conducted a public hearing Thursday morning (Aug. 31) to approve its proposed budget and tax rate for 2023-24.

No one spoke at the public meeting for either the budget or tax rate.

The proposed tax rate is $0.79460 per $100 valuation for Maintenance, and $0.50000 for School Debt Service Tax.

This will be a 6.6 percent tax increase for M&O, 13.6 percent increase on Debt Service and 7.8 percent increase on total expenditures from last year’s rates.

The board adopted both the budget and tax rate by resolution.

They also considered adoption of the year end agreement for the 2022-23 fiscal year and resolution for designation of non-business days for the 2023 calendar year.
