Zapata-Martinez hired as Slatonite staff

Eloitha Zapata-Martinez has been hired to The Slatonite staff.

She will be doing ad sales, classifieds and legals.

Zapata-Martinez started work at the paper in late summer.

She was born and raised in a small town Brady and graduated from Brady High School in 1989.

She moved to Lubbock Texas in 1991 with her parents. She has five brothers.

She married Marcelo Martinez, Jr., from Ralls, and has two children.

She added she has years of customer service experience.

“I have over 20 years of work experience in customer service.  I still get a little nervous talking face to face to people who I have met for the first time. Once I get comfortable, I sit, listen and chat like we’ve know each other our entire lives,” she said.

“I have a passion for helping others.  I volunteered and coached little league softball for four years here in Slaton.  My daughter, Adrianna and I, do on occasion, help coaches with pitching when we are called to help out.”

She has also volunteered with several organizations in Lubbock, Canyon and Amarillo.

“I’m really excited learning new things at The Slatonite.  It’s a great environment to work and Melissa (McCaghren, General Manager) has so much knowledge and years of experience in the business,” she said. “Make sure to pick up The Slatonite and be part of the sponsors who cheer on our kids throughout the school year.”

McCaghren added she was happy to have Zapata-Martinez on the staff.

“I am honored to have Eloitha as part of our staff,” she said. “She has been a valuable asset to the paper so far and I look forward to seeing what she can do to help further bring local news to Slatonites and the area.”
