Lights return to Square as part of Chamber campaign

Slaton’s City Square got a bit brighter recently when lights started adorning trees once again and greeting residents and visitors coming into the City.

The lights were part of a Lights on the Square campaign by the Slaton Chamber of Commerce.

NatureWorks installed the lights, donating their labor and equipment for the Chamber.

It took about a week to install nearly a miles of lights, and took more than 5,000 feet to cover Downtown.

Chamber President Ann Marie Wright said the project started about six years ago to welcome visitors to Slaton when the sun began to set earlier in the evening. “Many local businesses, the City of Slaton and the Slaton Chamber of Commerce donated funds to purchase the lights.  The Board of Directors of the Chamber donated the labor to hang the lights.  We have lit up the evenings downtown ever since,” she said.

“As time and the West Texas weather took a toll on the lights, it was time to replace them.  The Slaton Chamber of Commerce began another campaign this year for Lights on the Square once again.  After enough funds were raised to purchase the lights, we then ordered the lights earlier this summer.  Thanks to all those who donated to the Lights on the Square this time.”
