Cemetery board discusses improvements

The Slaton Cemetery Board met Monday evening (Jan. 22) to discuss improvements and changes at the cemetery.

City Manager Wade Willson reported to the board the wreaths that were placed on veterans graves during Wreaths Across America have been picked collected.

The City hired a new cemetery worker who has been busy working on the cemetery. Willson said he has seen the worker trim trees, mow the yards and keep the fences around the cemetery neat and clear.

Willson added Mayor Clif Shaw recently made a repair to the fencing after a drunken driver collided with it.

He said he noticed some water leaks and has contacted people to alert the water department to fix them.

Willson also discussed the roads in the cemetery. He set $10,000 aside to all for seal coating them. He is currently doing bids for the streets for seal coating, and if there is a good price for the coating he would add in the cemetery.
