In Loving Memory of W.E. Rainwater

W.E. Rainwater, a distinguished veteran of World War II adorned with four Bronze Stars, gracefully departed from this earthly dream on Jan. 23, 2024, at the age of 98, in Killeen. 

Born on April 25, 1925, in precinct two of Dallas County to Ed and Estelle Rainwater, W.E. was a proud descendant of the Rainwater family, among the first settlers in the historic town of Slaton.

Educated in Slaton, W.E. Rainwater’s pursuit of excellence shone bright, and he later graduated at the top of his class with a welding certificate, reflecting his unwavering commitment to craftsmanship.

W.E. Rainwater shared his life with the love of his life, Mary Alice Gamble, creating a love story that endured the passage of time. 

Together, they built a life of shared joys and triumphs, leaving behind a legacy that resonates through the generations.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Rose Thompson, and granddaughter, Teffanie Thompson, accompanied by her husband, Matthew Hanson. W.E.’s legacy extends to his great-grandchildren: Abby Krieg and Clay, Imhotep White and Ambrosia Mcmillin and Halima White. His spirit lives on through his great-great-grandchildren: Margot, Ellis, and Walter Krieg, and Hendrix White.

W.E. Rainwater was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Alice, reuniting with her in eternal serenity. He is also reunited with his parents, Ed Rainwater and Estella McClintock, and his siblings: Delia, Tom, Lonnie, Joe, Mary Ella, George, Rosie Lee, Hollie V, and Edward.

W.E. Rainwater celebration services include visitation Friday, Feb.  2, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at Ossie Curry Funeral Home, 1805 M.L.K. Jr. Blvd., in Lubbock.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024.

Viewing will be from 12:30-1 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at Hearts Together Church of Christ, 340 W Division St,, in Slaton.

Burial will be in Slaton Cemetery
